Shimla is the green land of serenity; the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The air in Shimla itself feels like heaven. So of course, as soon as I graduated from college, my friends and I finally planned the long awaited trip. There are, of course, plenty of places to visit and we definitely fell for some of them during our research. We discovered that if you are planning a trip to Shimla, 3-4 days are sufficient. Shimla is a place covered by hills and has the best sightseeing spots, with amazing food to accompany it.

Here’s a 3-day itinerary for a trip to Shimla

Day 1

We took a train up to Chandigarh and then took a taxi from Chandigarh to Shimla. There are many hotels to stay in but the most famous and common one is the Viceregal Lodge, and that’s where we booked ourselves a room. Once we checked in, we lay down to rest for a while and then got ready for the day.

We wanted to eat something before heading out for sightseeing. There are many hotels, cafes that provide delicious food. We first stopped at One Hotel which is close to the Viceregal Lodge. We had delicious food with the most gorgeous views.

As the day went by, in the evening, we visited  the famous Kali Bari Temple. It was only 15-20 minutes away from our hotel. This temple is famous among pilgrims and is dedicated to Goddess kali.

Towards the end of the night we loitered around the Mall Road where you can find all kinds of different items to shop. Are you a foodie or crazy about shopping? If yes, the place is a must-visit. We visited some cafes, sweet shops, clothing stores, and more. Mall Road has these beautiful handicrafts and lights which will captivate you. After a tiring day, we retired to our room early.

Day 2

On the second day, we decided to go to the Ridge, which is near Mall Road. Not many vehicles were around so we enjoyed a serene walk.

We then headed to the Christ Church just a few minutes away from the Ridge; the architecture there was  breathtaking. We all wondered how a place could be so divine. After spending time in Church we headed to Cafe Sol, as we had heard from locals that it serves mouth-watering chicken. We enjoyed the live music and the rightfully praised food.

Day 3

On day three, we decided to rest for a while and then travel to Jakhu hill. We were amazed by the view. An interesting fact about Jakhu Hill – right beside the temple, there is a massive statue of Lord Hanuman. A local vendor explained to us that the Jakhu temple is located at an altitude of 2455 meters. She also said that people say Hanuman took a rest at this location when he was in search of Sanjeevani Booti.

We also briefly visited some places such as Kufri, Green Valley,  Mashobra, etc. We searched the internet for locations that we would have found interesting. Throughout our trip we used safe and sanitized car rental service with a local driver for our local commuting.
